A NORTH-West MEP has voiced his support ahead of the Aviva Tour of Britain coming to East Lancashire.
Sajjad Karim, who was born in Blackburn, has previously worked in Pendle and currently lives in the Ribble Valley.
The former Nelson and Colne College student said: "Having been brought up in Pendle and living in Ribble Valley, I am delighted that the second stage of the Tour of Britain will be passing through our part of the country.
“It's a fantastic opportunity for local people to encourage these top class international cyclists as they pass through our towns and villages on route between Clitheroe and Colne.
“East Lancashire will do what it does best and play host to the many visitors who will come to this free event, giving our local businesses a welcome boost.
“The UK's biggest professional bicycle race now rivals many of our European neighbours and attracts world class names.
“All this has increased the interest in cycling and I hope that the tour will generate enthusiasm, particularly amongst our youngsters, that will last for many years."
