LOCAL voluntary groups and businesses across the Ribble Valley and Pendle are in the process of setting up 'fan zones' to make sure that spectators get the best possible view of the Aviva Tour of Britain.

Talks are still on-going for a potential zone near to the Judge Walmsley pub in Whalley Road, Billington which could prove to be one of the best viewing points along the whole route.

The Nick o’ Pendle will also prove to be popular with spectators with hundreds expected to grab any safe viewing point possible between Pendleton and Sabden for one of the King of the Mountain stages.

For the vast majority of the route the riders will be hurtling down streets and narrow lanes at speeds approaching 30mph.

With the route going through many villages and towns people will be able to lean out of their office or home windows to catch the action as the riders zoom past at break-neck speeds.

Castle Street in Clitheroe, where the race will start, will be a popular viewing point as well as Queensway near the Homebase superstore in the town which features twice during the race.

Berry Lane in Longridge, one of the main shopping areas of the town, will prove to be popular as well as Church Street in Colne where the race will reach its climax.

The councils are still working with the tour’s organisers to arrange official fan zones and they are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
