Sawley canoe star Jon Schofield has spoke of his delight after being officially picked by Team GB in the flat-water Canoe Sprint at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Schofield is among nine athletes to earn selection and will compete in the men’s K2 200m alongside Liam Heath.
“It’s a dream come true to be competing at the London Olympics,” said the 27-year-old.
“To be in an exclusive team of British sporting legends is something I will treasure for the rest of my life. “It’s all coming round very fast now, but we are focused on delivering our best possible race in August and fighting for the medals.”
The partnership of Schofield and Heath have won two silver medals in their World Cup events this year. They also won silver at the 2011 World Championships in Szeged.
