WILL Murray is following in his big sister’s slip stream after proving he too is a star of the pool.
The younger brother of Samantha Murray – who will represent Great Britain’s modern pentathlon team in the Olympics – stormed to victory in 100m freestyle at the Regional Championships in Manchester.
Samantha will be competing in the combined event of running, riding, pistol shooting, fencing and swimming at London 2012 – with swimming considered her strongest event.
And Will showed he also has power in the pool. He clocked a pb of 55.76s to win gold then added a bronze in the 200m freestyle – his best result ever in this event.
He also came away with three NQTs in the 100m and 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly.
He will now compete in the National Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield later this month.
Will has also been chosen to represent NW Schools in the National competition having won the 100m freestyle in the regional qualifying event. He has also represented Lancashire as the County won the National Inter County team event.
Dean’s Coach at Clitheroe Dolphins said: “Will Murray has gone from a swimmer at Clitheroe Dolphins to a regional champion two years in a row.
“He put in the hard work and became dedicated, always asking how to improve his technique and wanting to train and work to the best of his ability.
“One of his main achievements is making the Lancashire team.
“He is now winning all the medals and all our younger swimmers looking up to him.”
