HAVE fun, but drink sensibly – that is the message to football fans from Lancashire Constabulary during the World Cup.
Police are promising high-visibility patrols in town centres on match days that will visit licensed premises to spread the sensible drinking message, while roadside checkpoints will target drink-drivers.
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Rhodes, who will lead the policing operation during the tournament, said: “It will be our job to make sure everyone can enjoy it, and that those who want to have a drink as well, drink responsibly.
"There will be extra officers on the street, not because of any intelligence to suggest disorder, but purely because of the number of people expected to be out and about.”
