Tyler Magloire is set to sign for League One side Rochdale.
Magloire will spend the season at the Crown Oil Arena to further his development, with the deal expected to be confirmed on Thursday.
The central defender played twice for Rovers’ first team last season, making his debut in the win over Wigan Athletic in March before keeping his place for the 4-2 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
He captained the Under-23s to fifth place in Premier League and lifted the Lancashire Senior Cup after victory over Burnley in May.
There was significant interest in the 20-year-old, but Brian Barry-Murphy’s side have won the race for his signature.
He could make his debut in Saturday’s home game with Doncaster, but more likely could be the EFL Cup tie with Bolton on Tuesday.
Magloire signed a new long-term deal at Ewood Park in February which runs to 2022 and is seen as a bright prospect by Tony Mowbray.
He was a regular for Rovers in pre-season, including playing 45 minutes of a behind closed doors friendly with Dale.
Rovers feel now is the time to allow Magloire the chance to gain experience out on loan, with fellow central defender Scott Wharton having joined Northampton Town.
That is likely to see Joe Grayson, who finished the season with Grimsby Town, stay as cover for the first-team.
Rovers have several options available to them within the Under-23s ranks, with Charley Doyle, Matt Platt, Sam Barnes and Louis Annesley all set to compete for spots when the Premier League 2 season starts on Monday.
