Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez were part of a Manchester United side who beat a Rovers XI in a behind closed doors game at Carrington today.
United ran out 4-0 winners, courtesy of two goals from Jesse Lingard, with Mason Greenwood and Tahiti Chong also on target.
The Rovers side was expected to be a mixture of Under-23s who didn’t feature at Lancaster City earlier this week, and the possibility of some fringe players in need of minutes, with Dan Butterworth recently back from illness and Joe Rankin-Costello having not made the bench against Charlton.
Rovers kick off their Premier League 2 campaign against Arsenal at Leyland on August 12.
Pogba missed United's friendly against AC Milan on Saturday but played in the game which was watched by boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and reportedly, Harry Maguire, who looks set to secure his record £80m move from Leicester.
Chile international Sanchez is said to have played 65 minutes of the win, in a side which also included Sergio Romero, Matteo Darmian and Axel Tuanzebe.
Rovers are still on the look-out for an Under-23s manager after Damien Johnson was promoted to the senior set-up this summer.
A shortlist is understood to have been drawn up and Rovers could look to announce the new man ahead of the new season.
