Liverpool have snapped up Rovers Academy goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom.
The 17-year-old was out of contract at Rovers in the summer, with the Premier League side signing him as cover for their Under-18s squad.
Winterbottom has been on the bench for Rovers Under-23s at times this season, with Charlie Albinson having become first choice while Andrew Fisher is out on loan.
However, Preston-born Winterbottom is yet to make an appearance for Damien Johnson’s side, and played nine times for the Under-18s.
He was named on the bench for Saturday's 1-0 derby win over Everton at Finch Farm.
“Ben was available and with the injuries we've got, it's about making sure we have enough cover,” Liverpool Under-18s boss Barry Lewtas told the Liverpool ECHO.
“He's a good boy and has settled in really well. He's a positive character around the dressing room.
“He has trained well and will prove to be a good addition to the squad.”
Liverpool Under-18s have been short of options since Vitezslav Jaros suffered an ankle injury earlier this month, with Winterbottom set to provide competition to their goalkeeping ranks.
