STEVE Kean was due in Portugal last night for talks over Adrien Silva’s future as Blackburn Rovers look to push the midfielder’s move to Ewood Park over the line.
The Lancashire Telegraph understands the Rovers boss flew to Lisbon from Blackburn’s Austrian training camp yesterday in an attempt to finally capture the in-demand midfielder – and prove their statement of intent.
Talks between Silva and Sporting Lisbon about his future are understood to have been at a stalemate for more than a week, as the club attempt to convince him to extend his contract.
It is understood Silva has so far turned down all offers of an extended deal, with his current contract expiring next summer, forcing Sporting into consider-ing cutting their losses now.
Rovers have led the chase for Silva’s signature for more than a fortnight now, with the player understood to be keen on a switch to Ewood Park - despite interest from the likes of Montpellier, Marseille and Porto.
There remains deadlock between the club and the player though, as negotiations between all parties continue, with Kean flying to Lisbon himself last night in an attempt to speed the process up.
Sporting Lisbon have insisted contract talks are going well with the player but Rovers sources remain confident they can secure his signature.
Rovers’ global advisor Shebby Singh told the Lancashire Telegraph last week that Blackrbun were hoping to get the majority of their transfer activity done before this week’s training camp in Austria.
Their efforts to land Silva have so far been frustrated, but it is believed Rovers feel the signing of Silva is worth waiting for as they look for a midfield foil for Danny Murphy.
Rovers though are not prepared to wait forever and, if the deal fails to move on significantly, will move their sights elsewhere as they look to strengthen the key central midfield position.
Meanwhile Junior Hoilett is understood to be ready to fly out for further talks with Borussia Monchengladbach this weekend, as he continues to mull over his future.
Premier League outfit QPR thought they had stolen the march on signing the out of contract Canadian but it now looks as though a move to Germany is increasingly likely.
This would be a blow for Rovers owners Venky’s as a move to Germany would see Blackburn receive less than £750,000 in compensation, compared to the circa £4million they would get if he remained in England.
Rovers have also distanced themselves from links with a loan move for Joey Barton.
