Chile have called up Ben Brereton for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Brereton, whose mother is Chilean, has been called up for the first time and is ready to pledge his international allegiance to La Roja.

The 21-year-old has represented England up to Under-20 level, but has been on the radar of the Chilean national team since the end of last year.

And after several months of talk, and seven goals for Rovers this season, Brereton has been named in Martin Lasarte’s squad for the upcoming matches.

Chile will come up against Argentina (June 4) and Bolivia (June 9) in World Cup qualifiers before the Copa America tournament gets underway on June 11.

There they will face co-hosts Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay and Paraguay, with the top four teams in the group making it through to the quarter-finals.

However, there is no mention of yet of Brereton's involvement in the Copa America, with the 30-man squad only covering the World Cup fixtures, but it is anticipated that he will be included, with Lasarte set to rest sevreal of his high profile players.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Chile have four points from their four qualifying matches, and sit sixth in the 10 team group. The top four sides qualify automatically, with fifth enough to go into a play-off match against a side from another confederation.

They face second-placed Argentina, and rock bottom Bolivia, as they look to make ground on the sides above them. The next round of qualifiers will come in September against Brazil and Colombia.
