SEAN Dyche was suddenly feeling better after his side provided the perfect pain relief to ease the pain from his recent back surgery after Burnley beat Wolves 2-0.

A Conor Coady own goal and a fine goal from Dwight McNeil secured a vital three points in the Clarets’ battle to stay in the Premier League.

The win, on Dyche’s 300th game in charge, moved them five points ahead of Cardiff City - who occupy the final relegation spot, but also have two games in hand over the Clarets.

“I am very pleased from a professional point of view because I’ve had to have a back operation in the past couple of weeks,” said Dyche.

“I’ve had to have a week away and I thank my staff because they have obviously kept at it with the training levels we expect.

“I’ve been trying to put it off after four months of agony, but the specialist felt he could get me back to work early and he’s done that very well.

“Hopefully over the coming days I’ll be back on the treadmill, but for now I’ll just be happy to be back at work and enjoying days like today.”

The Burnley boss was keen to get across how pleased he was with his sides performance against Wolves.

“I’m pleased with the performance in so many ways,” he added.

“Obviously the result is more important, especially today after losing four games, but we did all the basics and all of the ugly stuff really well today.

“They are all the things that you need sometimes to get wins, but in the bigger picture it’s a strange one.

“You can lose four in a row and that makes a story, and I understand that, but people soon forget we’ve taken 21 points in 13 games since Christmas.

“That is a really healthy return and not many teams across the Premier League have done that.

“We had 12 points at Christmas. Twelve points from 19 games! Of course, we still need more, we know that.

“We are showing signs and I did say a few weeks ago that if you put those four losses in the run, then you would accept that return.”

Burnley were ahead inside the opening two minutes, and then after a nervy second half, McNeil fired the Clarets two goals in front.

“We started very well and Dwight and Woody caught eyes well for the first goal,” said Dyche.

“In the second half they grew into the game, changed formation and threw caution to the wind, while we were a bit cagey and edgy, which you would expect.

“But then, because of our diligence to do all the basic stuff we know we can find moments and Dwight finds a fantastic one, so I am pleased on all levels “The fans are going to be nervous, but they stuck with the team today and the team delivered what you would call a very professional performance to win that game.

“We know we are a side who can’t be fluent every week, we can’t dominate games every week, but equally we know we are very strong when it comes to defending and doing the basics.”
