ACCRINGTON Stanley expect to finalise a deal for a striker today – and they may also get the chance to sign a forward from Newcastle after enquiring about possible loan signings following Wednesday’s Carling Cup loss to the Magpies.

Manager John Coleman looks close to a real coup after lining up a permanent deal to sign a talented centre forward on a free transfer.

Reports are naming the target as Tranmere's former Stanley loanee Terry Gornell but the club will not confirm the player's identity until the move is finalised - although they hope to have it completed in time for tomorrow’s match at Oxford.

The Reds are still looking for a target man, though, and asked Newcastle management duo Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood about possible loan signings on Wednesday.

They are due to receive an answer about a couple of potential options next week.
