FOCUSED skipper Andy Procter is demanding his Stanley team-mates keep up their good work tonight when they go head to head with Aldershot in a game he describes as bigger than the glamour of the FA Cup clash with Fulham.
Stanley won admiration with the manner of their display in the 3-1 loss to Fulham on Saturday but Procter is adamant they must forget that ahead of the Crown Ground showdown with the Shots as they look to turn their games in hand into points towards their promotion push.
And the local hero is hoping the headline grabbing cup run will lead to a bumper crowd to cheer the Reds towards glory.
“Aldershot is a massive, massive game,” said Procter. “It’s much bigger than the Fulham match because we are playing for league points and if we can retain half of the extra people who came through the gates on Saturday it will be a huge boost for us.
“It was great to see the Crown Ground full. Our fans are very vocal at the best of times and if we can get the extra ones in it can only help us.
“We need to retain the fans and get extra ones through the gates if we are to kick on and develop.
"We need the extra fans and as Saturday showed the Premier League has lots of glamour but League Two is a good standard and well worth watching.”
Stanley’s cup exploits have seen them build up a collection of games in hand – and if they win those they will climb into the play-off spots.
And they can take a massive step towards that top seven tonight when they face the Shots, who themselves moved into the play-off places with Saturday’s win over Bournemouth.
“It’s a massive game,” added Procter. “We have games in hand and we want to win them to get into those play-off spots.
“The play-offs are a real possibility but we have to turn these games in hand into points.”
Stanley are without Darran Kempson, who is banned following his sending off against Fulham, so Peter Murphy is likely to come in at left back with Dean Winnard filling in at centre half.
