STRIKER Michael Symes says he is not bothered about transfer speculation linking him with moves from the Crown Ground, and is simply concentrating on firing Accrington Stanley towards the League Two play-offs.
The 26-year-old is in the form of his life this season and scored his 14th goal of a productive campaign as brave Stanley bowed out of the FA Cup to Premier League Fulham on Saturday.
And that goal-laden run has led to much speculation about the future of Symes with Stanley knocking back two bids from Grimsby Town for their strike star.
Rumours persist about a host of other clubs watching the much-travelled Symes, whose career has drifted since being released by Everton as a 20-year-old, but he says he is not bothered by any speculation.
“I have heard all the speculation before,” said Symes.
“You hear you are going here, there and everywhere but you can’t put any store by it, it means nothing until there is something concrete.
“All I want to do is concentrate on doing my job for Accrington and firing us up the league table.
"We are having a good season and I am sure it can get better and better.”
The 14-goal haul is already a career best for Symes and he believes there is more in the locker as the League Two season bubbles towards boiling point.
“I am doing well but more importantly, so are the rest of the lads,” he said.
“We have had a lot of games called off and now it means we have matches on Tuesday and Saturday right through until the end of the season.
“We don’t mind that. We can get into a good run and games coming thick and fast is a good place to be.”
The Evertonian admitted he was disappointed that Stanley bowed out of the FA Cup to Fulham, especially as the Cottagers were inspired by ex-Liverpool man Danny Murphy.
“I wanted to give him a little kick but couldn’t get near him,” he said.
“But he is a class player, a real class act and he was the difference on Saturday.
“I thought we competed well but when we were down to 10 men it was difficult.
"They were spreading the ball about and that killed us in the end.
“Yes, I was happy to get my goal but disappointed to lose - and now we have to concentrate on the league.”
