CHORLEY’S second pre-season friendly ended in defeat against a youthful Bolton Wanderers side at Victory Park, in front of a crowd of 602.

Bolton’s first-team are currently on tour in America, and they fielded a team made up of reserve and academy players to take on Garry Flitcroft’s Magpies.

Chorley had the better of the early exchanges, with new signing Tom Williams firing wide.

On the 15-minute mark, Steve Foster started and ended a move, which finished with his shot blocked by Lynch in the Trotters goal, then his follow-up hit the side netting from an acute angle.

Against the run of play Bolton took the lead when Joe Riley netted following a neat passing move on the edge of the area.

Wanderers extended the lead when Sampson glanced home a Vella cross, then Riley netted his second and his team’s third when he broke through the defence and slotted beyond Dean Porter.

It was Chorley’s second defeat of the summer after their 2-0 home loss to Preston in last weekend’s Jack Kirkland Trophy match.

They next take on local neighbours Charnock Richard this Saturday.
