GARRY Flitcroft can’t wait for Saturday’s Evo-Stik collision of the big guns – and reckons his Chorley men will come out victorious against title rivals Chester.
The First Division North’s star attractions are all set to collide in a clash that will shudder the foundations at Victory Park with an all-ticket crowd of around 3,000 there to see the biggest game of the season as the good times come rolling back.
And while Flitcroft’s Magpies are trailing Chester in the table they have a game in hand – and that cheers the ex-Blackburn Rovers ace.
“All the pressure is on them,” he said. “We have the game on them and that makes Saturday a big one.
“We beat them over at their place and I have no doubt that we can beat them again. This is why we are here, we want to see our job through.”
While a 3,000 crowd was minute for Flitcroft in his glorious playing days, he knows just how much it means to everyone at Victory Park with the buzz going around the town.
“Obviously I played in front of much bigger crowds,” he said.
“It is new for a lot of my players – but I told them that when they were signing for me.
“Many of them were playing at clubs getting between 60 and 150 – here this season we have regularly had 600 or 800.
“It is special for them but I have every faith in them going out and doing the business.
“Games like this are why we are involved, you want to play in front of big crowds in big games – and this is going to be a big, big game.”
As much as the clash is being billed as almost a title decider, Flitcroft knows nothing is over.
“Whoever wins on Saturday has the advantage,” he said. “But that means nothing just yet.
“Chester will have a bad run between now and the end of the season and we could well have a blip as well.
“But I would back my lads all the way.”
