IRATE Chorley boss Garry Flitcroft has hit back at claims he was disrespectful to Chester in the aftermath of last weekend’s memorable win at the Deva Stadium – and believes some people are just trying to stir up trouble.
The former Blackburn Rovers star is annoyed at the claims made on internet forums and insists such talk take the gloss away from the important 2-1 win in front of a 3,000 crowd in Evo-Stik First Division North.
“After the game I was quoted as saying something derogatory about Chester,” said Flitcroft.
“The truth is I walked off the pitch and a steward, who was at Chester when my brother Dave used to play there, said ‘great performance’ to me and I replied ‘we were poor in the first half but it was a great result’.
“I’ve also heard that I allegedly said things on Facebook but I don’t even have a page on Facebook. It seems a handful of people want to say things to stir up trouble.
“At the end of the day, it was a pleasure to watch two good sides play in front of a fantastic crowd.”
Flitcroft now wants to put those events behind his side as he looks to plot a victory over Durham City at Victory Park tomorrow.
The Magpies are top of the table and looking every inch the promotion favourites – and are expected to maintain their hugely impressive start to the 2010 season against the visitors, who have just three points from their opening six games despite hefty investment over the summer.
