After responding to manager Steve Waywell’s call to stop leaking goals with a 2-0 win at Harrogate, Chorley face another Yorkshire side with the visit of Ossett Albion to Victory Park tomorrow “It was good to keep a clean sheet after the goals we’ve been leaking, but we need to build on it,” said the Magpie boss.

The Ossett match is the halfway point in Chorley’s UniBond First Division North 42-match season.

They are 12th on 24 points, having won six and drawn six of their 20 games, scoring 27 goals and conceding 39.

“I made it clear to the lads that we must stop making silly mistakes and the message got home, as we were comfortable at the back against Harrogate Railway,” said Waywell.

“It was really good to end our disappointing run and I was pleased to see Chris Amadi laying on our two goals, for Steve Burke and substitute Josh Kenworthy, who both took them well.

"It was a good team effort on a bad surface and we worked hard in midfield.

“Lee Shillito did well in the centre of midfield after his horrendous injury problems it’s like having a new signing, and Lee’s attitude is spot on.

“Alex Porter is proving a good signing because he also has a winning attitude. He always wants the ball and he always looks dangerous.

“Young Sam Finley missed the game because of flu and Jamie Nay is still suffering the effects of the ankle injury he picked up against Prescot two weeks ago.

“We need to keep progressing and aiming high. We need the squad to be strong, especially for the start of next season.”
