PRESTON North End legend Sir Tom Finney was described as “a god” after the 86-year-old won a lifetime achievement award.

The tribute came from another former England idol Sir Bobby Charlton at the Northwest football awards dinner in Manchester.

Finney won 76 caps and scored 20 goals for his country after making his mark for Preston, where he is president of his beloved club.

Charlton said: “Tom Finney was a fantastic player. You will never see his like today.

“But Tom also helps with charity events and in his own part of the world in Preston, he is a god, an absolute god and rightly so.
