DURHAM City extended their unbeaten start to life in UniBond First Division North in impressive style.

Hapless Chorley spent much of the first half chasing shadows and City were two up at the interval.

Gavin Cogdon strode clear of a square defence to stroke the ball past Peter Collinge on 21 minutes.

He missed an inviting chance to add a second before Andy Johnstone showed great composure in beating two defenders and steering his shot expertly past Collinge in the 40th minute.

Breaking through again, minutes later, Johnstone missed the target with a third goal there for the taking.

It had been a desperate half for Chorley but Jordan Connerton struck a post with a clever shot over his shoulder after half time.

City, though, effectively sealed the game on 54 minutes when Collinge punched aside a free kick but the ball was played back in and Cogdon scored from eight yards.

Chorley raised their game, though, and recorded the first league goal Durham had conceded since the opening day of the season.

Roger Sharrock cut inside inside in the 63rd minute and whipped in a low cross-shot, which was helped into the roof of the net by two desperate defenders.

Chorley then had chances to score more but Durham held out.
