Preston North End have completed the loan signing of Hull City defender Wayne Brown on an initial one-month deal.

The 31-year-old centre-half has been brought in to the North End squad with Alan Irvine's defensive options stretched due to the injuries to Callum Davidson, Michael Hart, Neal Trotman, Liam Chilvers and the latest injury concern over Sean St. Ledger.

St. Ledger took a pain-killing injection against Sheffield United after picking up knee, ankle and Achilles injuries only 75 seconds into the clash at Bramall Lane.

North End's Player of the Year is hopeful of being fit for the visit of Watford on Tuesday night but he was not available to train on Monday morning.

Should Brown be thrown straight into the action at Deepdale on Tuesday he will be coming up against one his former clubs.

The Barking-born defender started his career with Ipswich Town but has had spells with Colchester, QPR, Wimbledon, Watford and Gillingham before Hull City paid Colchester a club record £450,000 for his services in the summer of 2007.

Brown's centre-back partnership with Michael Turner was the bedrock of the side which was promoted to the Premiership via the Play-Offs last season.

The no-nonsense defender has been limited to just one start in the Premiership this season as Phil Brown's side have taken the division by storm.
