TONY Hesketh believes his fledgling Chorley side are getting better week after week.

The Magpies, who beat Lancaster City 2-0 in the UniBond Presidents Cup on Tuesday night, have lost just once in their last seven games.

And Hesketh believes their good run has stemmed from the maturity of his troops.

Youngsters Jordan Connerton, Chris Smalley, James Mullineux, Danny Finch, Michael West and Ashley Parillon have all made the grade at Victory Park and Hesketh is confident that there is more to come.

“The lads are making good strides. We are getting better week after week” said the Magpies boss, ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Wakefield.

“There is a lot of youth in the side, and they are now getting that experience, with playing all the time.

“The average age of the side is about 20 – a lot of the lads were released by professional clubs, and are trying to make their way back.

“There’s a long way to go – but I’m happy with their progress.”
