NICK Haughton scored a stunning hat-trick as 10-man Chorley reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in 27 years following a thrilling 4-3 extra time win at Boston United.
The in-form Magpies ace netted the winner in the second period of extra time to set up a mouth-watering all-Lancashire clash with Fleetwood Town at Victory Park next month.
Boston twice led before two goals from Haughton and an Andy Teague header put Matt Jansen’s side in front.
But the Pilgrims forced extra time thanks to a goal by Gregg Smith before Chorley were reduced to 10-man after Matty Smith was shown a straight red in extra time.
Chorley weathered the storm and hung on after Haughton put them ahead for a second time.
It was a breathtaking cup tie with Boston taking the lead in the 23rd minute through James Clifton.
Chorley drew level in the 50th minute when Haughton curled home from the edge of the area only for Boston to regain the lead through Kabongo Tshimanga.
Teague rose to head home a corner just past the hour then Haughton cut in from the left to curl home a second stunning effort.
And after Smith took the tie in the extra time it was that man Haughton who won it as he completed his treble.
Elsewhere, Colne were beaten 2-1 at home by Workington Town in the Intergro Cup while Ramsbottom’s clash with Stalybridge Celtic was abandoned due to floodlight failure with the Rams leading 1-0.
Nelson won 3-2 on penalties at AFC Blackpool in the Macron Cup after a 0-0 draw.
