Blackburn Rovers Under 21's 3, Italy Under 21's 3 is what the scoreline should have read following Saturday's opening game at the new Wembley, as our boys did us proud, having a say in all three goals at the showpiece event.
And as Steve McClaren and his team of false promise head back from Tel Aviv, maybe the under pressure coach will now realise that he can no longer hold back the talents of David Bentley, despite the fact that the Rovers goalscoring midfielder does not play for one of the "fashionable" clubs.
The game at Wembley was a real cracker, worthy of the long awaited opening of "the world's best stadium".
Italian Giampaolo Pazzini secured most of the headlines, plus a place in every Pub sports quiz for years to come by scoring the first goal at the new Wembley, before Bentley carved out his own niche in history by putting away a Beckham-esque free kick on the half hour mark, to make the Blackburn Rovers player the first Englishman to do the same.
The Ewood influence again could not be denied as second half sub Matty Derbyshire set up the second and scored the third to leave an indelible Blue and White mark on the young history of the new Mecca of Football.
Both players have recently signed contract extensions at Ewood which bodes well for the future, and I hope both players get their second bite of the cherry at the hallowed turf before very long...
Old Trafford beckons for the FA Cup Semi Final clash against Chelsea and whilst I wouldn't have chosen to play against the Johnny-come-lately-Millionaires we will never get a better chance at putting our hands on the trophy which we won 5 times before Chelsea were even formed in 1905. As good as the Champions are, Rovers are capable of getting a result, and after the debacle of a Sunday lunchtime kick off in Cardiff against Arsenal a couple of years back, this semi final is one that Rovers fans have no excuse for not selling out their allocation.
30,000 Northerners at Old Trafford will be a unique experience in itself!
