CHORLEY’S FA Trophy run came to a cruel end as they were beaten 6-5 on penalties by Conference Premier side Tamworth at Victory Park last night.
Jake Cottrell, who scored the Magpies first equaliser, missed the eighth home penalty allowing Jordan Keane to win it for the visitors.
Chorley had nearly been beaten in extra time but Andy Teague’s last minute equaliser meant there was an extra period after Nick Chadwick and Wayne Thomas had twice put Tamworth in front.
There were 16 penalties required in the shoot-out before Tamworth held their nerve having converted three penalties to stay alive.
Nick Chadwick gave the visitors a 10th minute lead before Cottrell equalised midway through the first half.
Thomas restored Tamworth's advantage on the hour but Teague bundled home in the dying seconds to force extra time.
The additional 30 minutes couldn't separate the sides and for the second round in a row Chorley faced a Trophy penalty shoot-out but unlike the last round against Forest Green they couldn't prevail.
