CHORLEY penalty hero Sam Ashton believes the Magpies can pull off another FA Trophy upset at Skrill Premier side Tamworth tomorrow.
Ashton saved three spot kicks in the penalty shoot-out to help Chorley shock another Skrill Premier outfit, Forest Green Rovers, in the second round.
Now they travel to Staffordshire for the last 16, knowing they are only three wins away from the final at Wembley.
Chorley and Hungerford Town are the only two clubs left in the competition from outside the top two tiers of non-league football.
But Garry Flitcroft’s side sit second in Evo-Stik League Premier Division and Ashton sees no reason why they cannot claim victory at the Lamb Ground.
“We had nothing to lose in the Forest Green game and it’s exactly the same again. We’ll approach it in exactly the same way,” said the former Bolton and FC United goalkeeper.
“We will be going there to attack, we’re a lower division side so they won’t be expect us to do that but we will go and take the game to them.
“It doesn’t matter who the opposition is, we believe we can go into every game and win.
“Over the Christmas period we’ve maintained our league position, even though we had the extra game in the FA Trophy, so we’ve been able to really concentrate on this game this week.
“Wembley is still a way away but it’s the Trophy and you just never know.
“Whatever happens now we’ve already done really well to get this far, to get to the last 16.”
Ashton helped Skelmersdale United similarly reach the last 16 from the Evo-Stik League last season, and previously made a crucial last-minute penalty save as FC United drew at Brighton in the FA Cup second round in 2010.
So the Magpies had the perfect man in goal when the Forest Green tie went to penalties, after two 0-0 draws.
“Penalties are pot luck really but I managed to dive the right way on all of them,” he said.
“You just try to read their body, it’s something I’ve done in the past.
“I saved three of the four penalties, and I almost saved the other one too!
“To keep two clean sheets against Forest Green was great because they’re a Conference side, but the lads in front of me worked really hard.
“As we went into extra time they were maybe a little bit fresher, but that’s where the team spirit comes in and that got us through.”
Tamworth currently sit in the Skrill Premier relegation zone but have former Accrington Stanley loan keeper Cameron Belford in their squad, with his father Dale at the helm as manager.
