CHORLEY manager Gerry Luczka believes he has found a short-term solution to his goalkeeping problems in the shape of Danny Hirst.

The Radcliffe Borough stopper is expected to join the Magpies on loan today and he will become their 12th custodian this season if he plays at Gresley Rovers tomorrow.

Hirst has been signed as cover for Mark Thornley, who is currently sidelined by a hamstring injury, and Luczka believes he's finally found a safe pair of hands to take over the keeping duties in Thornley's absence.

"Danny's one of the best keepers I've seen in Non-League football, and certainly at our level," said the Chorley chief.

"He's vastly experienced and very accomplished so I'm delighted to have him here."

Luczka believes the Magpies are starting to show signs of turning the corner after taking four points from their last two games, against Skelmersdale and Cammel Laird, and he hopes to keep that momentum going at Gresley.

"It was a big relief to win our first home game of the season last week and that's taken a little bit of pressure off the lads," he added.
