Leaders Chorley suffered a shock home defeat by bottom-of-the table Carnforth, whose tight victory by eight runs was their first of the season.

Put in, Carnforth reached 168 for 9, their innings underpinned by 63 from Gareth Pedder who led the recovery after his side were reduced to 49 for 4.

Andrew Harty (3 for 31), Bill Smith (3 for 40) and Jim Lee (3 for 67) shared the wickets.

In reply, four Chorley batsmen got into the twenties but it was the dismissal of professional Chris Hartley, stumped on 28, with the score at 102 for 2 which turned the game Carnforth’s way.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals to leave Chorley all out for 160, Warren Quinn collecting 5 for 48.
