FORMER professional Guarav Dhar has been appointed player-coach at Chorley Cricket Club.
Dhar spent three seasons as pro at Windsor Park but the club decided last term to look elsewhere, it was recently announced that former Read man Mohammed Jamal would take over the professional’s post.
However, as the Windsor Park club were seeking a qualified coach to help bring young players through, especially emerging spinners, he was seen as the best choice in the alternative role and has duly accepted the club’s offer and takes over from previous player-coach Iain Critchley.
“We are delighted to have Guarav back on board,” said Chorley CC chairman Peter Mockett.
“His experience and knowledge will be a great asset and the switch to player-coach also suits the player himself as his increased business commitments made a pro role difficult.” And the club has announced that Alex Howarth is to take over as second team skipper from Ian Mawdesley.
Howarth is heavily involved with coaching in the junior set up and it is hoped the move will help the club’s aim of bringing local talent through from the junior ranks to the senior teams.
It has also been confirmed that first team skipper Andy Holdsworth and third team captain Ross Demming will continue in their respective roles.
