ACCRINGTON Road Runner Sarah Ridehalgh stole the show for East Lancashire at last weekend’s London Marathon by setting a new club record.

Ridehalgh, 36, the 2010 cross country Lancashire champion, was the 23rd women to finish the marathon outside of the elite runners in a time of two hours, 54 minutes and 19 seconds.

It eclipsed her previous best of 2:56:39 that she set at last year’s London marathon, and which was also a Road Runner record.

Her achievement in the capital has taken her to fourth in the event’s ‘Power of 10’ rankings for over 35 females.

David Cronshaw, of Blackburn Road Runners, was the quickest of our local men, the 49-year-old finishing in 2:49:52, which was the 38th quickest time in the 45-49 age category.

Rossendale Harriers veteran Alan Lundberg-Bury (2:57:03) and Clayton’s Alexander Cran (2:58:50) were our only other males to enjoy sub-three hour times.

Chorley duo Chris Lane and Keith Johnston were just outside of that milestone with times of 3:02:34 and 3:07:15 respectively.

Clayton’s 74-year-old Kathleen Garnett is still going strong and went around London’s streets in 6:36:07.
