Pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale finished 11th in the European Indoor Championships in Paris, her first major international competition as a senior.
She was eliminated in the qualifying stage of the competition as the field of 20 was whittled down to nine for the final.
The 19-year-old Blackburn Harrier cleared 4.45 metres, but would have needed 4.55m to go through.
That would have been five centimetres beyond her personal best and a full 20 higher than her 2010 best.
The competition was won by Anna Rogowska of Poland, the woman who had beaten Bleasdale in the Pedro’s Cup Meeting in Poland a fortnight earlier.
Rogowska cleared 4.85m at the second attempt to defeat two Germans, Silke Spiegelburg and Kristina Gadschiew.
Bleasdale was the only British competitor in the event as Kate Dennison hasn’t yet cleared the required 4.40m this season, and having already defeated Dennison to win the UK Indoor Championships, Bleasdale’s next target is her rival’s British Record of 4.60m.
