* The new date for the Ovenden Fell Race, postponed due to bad weather on January 8, has been confirmed as Saturday. All the race details are unchanged from the original entry so it starts at 11.30am from Ogden Reservoir embankment, Causeway Foot, off the A629 Halifax to Keighley road. Race distance is eight miles with 1,200 feet of climb and water-proof whole body cover is obligatory.
* The Standish Hall Trail Race is on Saturday at 2.30pm from the Britannia Hotel, Almond Brook Street, WN6 0SR. Race distance is roughly 10K and the course is off-road on bridle paths and woodland trails. Entries will be accepted on the day.
* Bolton United Harriers are the hosts for the Central Lancashire 5K which takes place on Sunday at 10.30am. The venue is Leverhulme Park, Long Lane, Bolton with registration at the Athletics Track, BL2 6EB.
* Included in the Long Distance Walkers’ Association events list are Challenge Events which must be completed within a time limit. While the closing date has passed, you could try Cliff Roby on 01257 400638. It starts at 8am for walkers and 9am for runners from Newburgh Sports Club, Cobbs Brow Lane, Newburgh and follows a 21-mile circular route, visiting Parbold Hill, Hunters Hill, Fairy Glen and Ashurst Beacon.
* The series of Manchester Indoor Open Meetings organised by Sale Harriers continues on Sunday at 10.30am. The event for U15s, U17s, U20s and seniors will be at the Sportcity. You can download an entry form or enter online at www.race-results.co.uk or enter on the day for a small supplementary charge.
* Pendle Forest Orienteers are holding a Junior Training Day at Tockholes on Tuesday from 10am to 3pm. The event is open to members of the PFO and SELOC clubs and adults are welcome too. There will be exercises for all abilities from ‘White’ to ‘Light Green’. Meet at the cafe and bring a packed lunch and warm clothing. * The race in memory of Lynn Hindle, John McDonough and Brian Hargreaves will go ahead as planned on Sunday, February 27, from the Falcon Inn at Littleborough. However, due to road resurfacing work, the route has been changed and will now follow a five-mile course over the tops. The event commemorates the lives of Blackburn Road Runner Hindle, who won five gold medals in two appearances at the World Transplant Games, as well as Todmorden Harrier stalwarts John and Brian. Part of the money raised will help Bryce Butterworth of Pendle Athletic Club to reach the World Transplant Games in Gothenburg this summer.
