Three Blackburn Harriers took pride of place at the Red Rose Cross Country League presentation night at Horwich.

Elizabeth Greenwood, Beckie Taylor and Matt Nuttall each won all three rounds of the competition to end the winter season with maximum scores.

The fixture at Bolton in early December fell victim to the weather so the remaining rounds at Hyndburn, Rossendale and Blackburn all had to count towards the final results – meaning nobody had the chance to atone for an off-day.

Greenwood won the U13 girls’ class while Taylor took the U17 women’s title and Nuttall was the winning veteran man – as well as finishing third in the senior men.

Blackburn won five titles with Harry Rushton and Dominic Mahoney taking the U11 boys’ and U17 men’s awards, while Danny Maynard was runner up in U20s and Rob Warner third in the U17s.

Rossendale Harriers scooped four team titles. Both senior teams were victorious with the women headed by second and third placed Sarah Yeomans and Emma Flanagan and the men by Joe Johnston who was second overall.

Both Flanagan and Johnston were the U20 winners too. Dale’s other team successes were in the U11 and U17 men’s divisions, although individually the girls did better with thirds for U13 Isabella Lewis and U15 Rebecca Flanagan.

Clayton’s veterans matched Dale’s seniors with team wins for both sexes. Jean Brown took the individual veteran title and Christine Leathley was first over 60. The club also fielded the senior women’s winner in Katie Trickett.

Chorley AC enjoyed a successful season as Barry Chester and Mike Coppin won the over 60 and over 65 men’s awards, and towards the opposite end of the age scale Luke Betts was second U17.
