No fewer than nine meeting records were broken or equalled at the recent Pendle Open Medal Meeting, the traditional end of season fixture at Seedhill.
Perhaps the senior men’s throws were the highlights with Wigan’s Carl Fletcher, ranked third in the country, putted the shot 17.64m and the 11th rated Michael Bomba threw 62.07m in the hammer. There was also a record in the discus for the former Burnley star Simon Bissell with 46.78m.
The hosts, Pendle Athletic Club, didn’t miss out either with James Blackburn clearing 12.74m in the senior triple jump for another meeting record.
The competition wasn’t just for seniors though and there were several youngsters from Chorley Athletic Club, some as young as seven, including the Gouldthorpe trio of Dominic, Scott and Meghan assisted by Teddy Henry and Brandon Mayor.
