The Mid Lancs Track and Field League gives all our local clubs a unique chance to compete directly against each other in all age groups from under 13s to seniors.
There is also the added spice of promotion and relegation at the end of the season, but without the drawback of separating the first and second division clubs on the track.
The second round was held at Blackburn's Witton Park track on Saturday, and the host club have rather taken to this competition in the last two seasons after previously concentrating on the other leagues.
Last year, Blackburn's men and women both gained promotion and the teams are now highly placed in the top flight.
Rossendale Harriers are also upwardly mobile with their men heading Division Two after the opener at Wigan while their women were second, and in a promotion place, in the same division.
Upwards of 30 Dale athletes took part at Blackburn with in-form Katie Ireland the star as she won the under 17s 800m defeating all the seniors at the same time.
Burnley Athletic Club is continuing to build with a base of youngsters making their bows after being promoted from last year's under 11s.
Jonathan Kirkaldy won his heats in the under 13s 100m and 200m and scored maximum points for his club.
Only Chorley Harrier James Bretherton was faster, but the Harriers are in the lower division.
Jonathan has just discovered that he was the Male Track Athlete of the Match in Burnley's Young Athletes League fixture the previous weekend.
Burnley, Pendle and Hyndburn each have one team in each division and Hyndburn's Stephen Sumner is spearheading their men's promotion effort winning the senior 100m and 200m double in doing so defeated all the first division sprinters.
Pendle's Amy Weaver was equally impressive with victories by wide margins in the senior shot and hammer as the club's women seek to consolidate their first division status.
