John and Bernadette Schofield will be officiating at the Safaricom Marathon and Half Marathon in Kenya next month after Bruce Tulloh contacted the couple about the possibility of using one of John's programs to produce the computerised race results.
The Blackburn couple have been offering a race results service for the best part of 20 years with John writing has own software because when they started there were no off the peg options available.
They have an unparalleled reputation locally, and fame nationwide for their excellent website www.ukresults.net which features a must read race calendar.
In recent years they have expanded their operation as far afield as Scotland and Wales, but surprisingly it will be their first commission abroad.
The race in Northern Kenya has been run for around five years and is a fund0raiser for wildlife conservancy in the area and for the communities that rely on conservation work for their livelihoods.
The marathon is a top class race and Paul Tergat has been lined up to take part in this year's event, while the half is predominantly to raise funds through expensive corporate packages.
Over the years John and Bernadette have themselves raised thousands of pounds for a wide range of charities through their work, and true to form they are donating a laptop and printer along with the software. The trip will also give them plenty of chance to relax with Bernadette especially looking forward to fulfil the ambition of a lifetime by going on safari.
It promises to make their 30th Wedding Anniversary unforgettable.
