Roy Flanagan has been selected for the Great Britain Duathlon Team at the ITU World Age Group Championships at Concord, North Carolina, in the United States.

It will be his second GB vest after finishing ninth at Rimini, Italy in the same competition last year.

The Rossendale Harrier will once again compete in the Age 50-54 class over the standard distance with runs of 10 and five kilometres sandwiching a 40 kilometre bike ride.

Roy was fifth in the first qualifier at Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire early in the season, but with only the first four being selected automatically, and being unable to compete in the other trial events, his place has only recently been confirmed.

He qualified at the same venue last year, a National Trust Country Park with gardens designed by Capability Brown but the World Championships will provide a total contrast as the competitors take to Lowe’s Motor Speedway, one of the homes of NASCAR racing.

The Championships are on from September 24-27.
