This time it is official!
Sophie Hitchon has broken her own United Kingdom U20 hammer record at Hull.
Back in February, she thought that she had set a new mark at the same venue, only to find out two days later that there had been a measuring error.
There was no mistake this time, though, as she posted a series of six throws all further than the 57.97 metres that any other British U20 has ever managed.
Her fifth effort was 62.55m, extending her mark of 60.73m set last year by nearly two metres.
It leaves the Blackburn Harrier more than 10 metres clear in the 2009 standings of the 52.50m set by Myra Perkins of Falkirk, the current number two in the U20s, and puts her third in the senior list behind Zoe Derham of Birchfield and Carys Parry from Rhondda with their distances of 64.93m and 64.63.
Sophie’s latest achievement moves her forward into the UK all time senior top 10 for the first time in her career at number 10 – and she doesn’t even celebrate her 18th birthday until July.
