BLACKBURN Harriers were third - and first Lancastrians - in the U15s boys’ race at the Northern Young Athletes Road Relays at Croxteth Park in Liverpool.

Alan McKeown gave them a flying start and, although they were only sixth at the first change, most of the teams had fielded their best first and he ended the eighth fastest of the day.

Robert Warner lifted the team to fourth before Luke Tasker brought them up another position with a run only seven seconds slower than McKeown.

The Harriers featured in all but one of the six races with the U17s boys 11th following an impressive outing by Karl Billington, who was equal fourth fastest in his class.

The U13s took 15th spot with Ashley Allen the pick on the first leg. Beckie Taylor, Charlotte Atkinson and Holly Broughton brought Blackburn’s U15s girls home in ninth, while the U13s were 18th with Sally Searson within a second of featuring in the day’s top 10.

Rossendale Harriers were the only other locals at Liverpool as their U15s boys - Pascal Dark, Daniel Walsh and Elliot Whylie - were 19th.
