Lucinda Mulligan of Hyndburn Athletic Club and Pendle AC's Lucy Chadwick have set league records in the second round of the Lancashire Sportshall League held last Sunday.
The fixture, held at the Blackpool Sports Centre at Stanley Park, was started an hour earlier to cope with the expanding popularity of the sport, and it was a good job the organisers had the foresight as around 250 youngsters turned out.
In spite of the organised chaos, Mulligan threw the javelin exactly 18 metres in the under 11s contest, while U13 Lucy set a mark of 9.24m in the shot.
Athletes add their point totals over a maximum of four events with the winner in each age group and gender being awarded the coveted Athlete of the Match T-shirt.
Chadwick was the U13 girls' victor and James Blow of Blackburn Harriers and Lucy Lennon from Ribble Valley won the U11 titles for East Lancashire. Unfortunately Blow left the venue without collecting his!
On the day, Ribble Valley were fourth, Blackburn Harriers fifth, Westholme School seventh and Hyndburn ninth, and after the two rounds to date the picture looks similar except that Blackburn and Hyndburn are each one place lower.
Ribble Valley look poised to win the U15 boys' section having taken both rounds, while Blackburn Harriers have been particularly strong in the U11s category.
The final meeting will be on Sunday February 17, again at Blackpool, and a week later there will be the Northern Inter Counties match at Wigan for the U13s and U15s.
Paul Brooke will pick the bulk of the Lancashire team in the next fortnight with just a few places being left open until the last week to allow athletes to make a late bid.
