Robbie Schofield and Sophie Hitchon have set Championship Records at the Lancashire Schools' Track and Field Championships at Blackpool.
Robbie, representing the Hyndburn District Schools Association, clocked 1:56.0 in the intermediate boys' 800 metres to better Matt Wood's record and the English Schools qualifying time of 1:59, while hammer thrower Sophie from Burnley (pictured) set an intermediate age group record of 50.27 metres to exceed the qualifying distance of 32m by an enormous margin.
Both athletes also achieved the tougher National Standards in their events and their selections for the English Schools Championships will surely be rubber stamped by the Lancashire Schools selectors when they meet next Wednesday.
Luke Evans, of Blackburn, equalled the English Schools time of 11.2 seconds when winning the inter boys 100m and Christina Carr, from Hyndburn, also exactly matched her target of 66 seconds as she won the senior girls 400m hurdles. Blackburn's Leigh Lennon exceeded hers though in the inter girls 800m, and she needed it for victory as the runner up also dipped under the required 2:18. Lennon came home in 2:14.3.
Chorley's Holly Bleasdale set the ES 12.1 seconds in the inter girls 80m hurdles, but that was good only for second as South Ribble's Danielle Rooney set a championship record of 11.5 seconds.
The selectors can choose more than one athlete in an event and Bleasdale will now have to wait for their decision.
In near perfect conditions, around 33 athletes set the required standards on the day, and several others had already done so elsewhere, including Eleanor Markendale, of Pendle, in the 200m and long jump, and Alison Leonard, from Chorley, in the 400m. Both women were unavailable last weekend as they were competing elsewhere.
The senior winners will have a final opportunity to impress the selectors this weekend when the under 20s will be competing at the Northern Championships.
