RED Rose Cross Country League chairman Steve Duxbury was one of three local athletes to complete the double of winning their class in the final league fixture, and also winning the series outright.

Rossendale Harrier Steve was the top over 50 veteran, Andrew Wrench from Todmorden Harriers took the over 40s and Chorley Harrier James Bretherton was first under 13 boy.

The last of the meetings was at Marl Pitts and began with the under 11s. Ribble Valley's Joe Oldfield won with Sally Searson of Blackburn Harriers clear of Alice Garnett from PHS in the girl's contest.

Bretherton won the under 13s for the third time this season to take the series. Wesley Clutterbuck led Rossendale Harriers to team success and Dale won the series too as Dominic Walton took third.

Beckie Taylor, Megan Searson, Naomi Thompson and Charlotte Atkinson ensured the Blackburn Harriers won the team title in the girls series.

Rossendale's under 15 boys won, with fifth-placed Jordan Beard their first counter, but they were beaten into equal second over the year.

Emma Flanagan is the individual champion with Lucy Patry from Blackburn equal second.

Blackburn Harriers' under-17s Peter Matthews and Rachel Searson were individual winners.

Dale's Katie Ireland is the leading woman ahead of Blackburn's Holly Robinson and Melanie Taylor, while Adam Hurley was second man.

Burnley will win a trophy through newcomer Jenny Warr in the under 20s, despite her being headed by Dale's Sarah Yeomans in their final outing.

James Kevan won all four under 20 men's races and took the senior men's title.

Matt Nuttall in fifth, Andrew Wrench sixth, Phil Hall equal seventh and Michael Corbishley ninth ensured that Blackburn, Todmorden, Clayton and Rossendale were all represented in the top ten of the seniors.

Wrench was the leading local in sixth, clear of Blackburn Harriers' Brian Cole and Paul Guinan.

Candice Leah, of Clayton, defeated Horwich's England Fell International Katie Ingram in the senior women's race.

Pendle's Katie Trickett took third, with Clayton's Sue Burns fourth. Burns was second veteran behind fellow over 45 Rashleigh leaving third placed Linda Clarkson to win the over 35 class for Darwen Dashers.
