ELEANOR Markendale has won a gold medal on her England debut after setting a personal best in the pentathlon.
The Pendle athlete was representing the English Schools Under 18 Team in the Indoor Home International at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, having been selected after finishing fourth in the heptathlon at the English Schools Combined Events Championships back in September.
Eleanor posted a score of 3381 points, which included a PB 1.62 metres in the high jump - good for 759 points.
She finished fourth outright and was the third counter for the winning English team.
Ireland, Wales and Scotland, second third and fourth, were beaten by a wide margin.
The 60m hurdles was her strongest event yielding 838 points for the 9.35 seconds, while as usual her long jump was a banker with 5.40m returning 671 points.
She opened with a shot putt of 7.73m and finished by posting 2:27.0 in the 800m.
Markendale was always in strong contention for an individual medal with less than a hundred points between second and seventh at the death.
England's Meghan Beesley was the winner with 3572 points.
