BLACKBURN Harriers took three of the first four places in the senior men's race at the Mid Lancs Cross Country fixture at Sefton Park, Liverpool.

In-form Ben Fish was the race winner with Tom Cornthwaite and Chris Hart third and fourth. The six-man team ran out winners in Division 2, scoring even better than Division 1 winners Clayton.

Beckie Taylor won the under 13 girls' race and inspired her team to victory while the club's third winning team was the under 17 women helped by Rachel Searson's fourth place. Her younger sister, Sally, was second in the under 11s, getting the better of Park High School's Alice Garnett, third in the race. Ribble Valley's best was Joe Oldfield, fifth under 11 boy.

Rossendale Harriers had two race winners with Dominic Walton top dog in the under 13 boys' race and Steve Duxbury likewise for the veteran 50 men. Dale were second team in the under 15 girls' race, where Emma Flanagan was fourth.

Pendle had a winner too - Anna Anderson in the junior women's class - while Ben Lindsay was second man in the same age group.

Laura Finucane's sixth place in the senior race helped the team to first in Division 3.

Chorley Harriers' Vicky Gill was thwarted in her bid for a Great Britain place in the European Championships, but second in the senior women's race helped the Harriers to win Division 2.

The senior and over 40 men were also divisional winners with Mark Ellithorn first counter for the veterans.

Clayton-le-Moors' men almost completed a clean sweep in the team standings with the seniors, over 40s and over 60s all running out winners, but the over 50s could only manage third.

Mark Aspinall and Pete Butterworth were third in the over 40s and over 50s.

Candice Leah in seventh was the first counter for the women with Sue Burns runner up in the over 45s section.

The senior men from Bowland Fell Runners were team winners in Division 3 and the club's Terry Bolland was third in the over 60s.
