Sarah Ridehalgh and Sue Corsini have set personal best times at the Wesham 10K Road Race.

Accrington Road Runner Sarah not only broke 40 minutes for the first time to finish second to Kate Chapman of Morpeth in 39:33, but also bettered Leigh Hargreaves' club record of 39:57.

Indeed, several of Accrington's women peaked on Saturday with Joanne White, Sarah Holden and Carole Morris also breaking their PBs.

Meanwhile Sue won the over 40 division with 41:32 as her Darwen Dashers club had three counters in the top ten.

The men's race was dominated by the host club, who had 19 of the first 31 including winner Steve Littler. Dave Lord of Clayton in 16th and Dashers Andy Smith and Russ Corsini, 20th and 26th, were the only East Lancashire runners to match them. John Mitchell of Blackburn Road Runners, Bill Atkinson from Northern Vets and Red Rose Road Runner Carolyn Douglass won the M60, M70 and F60 classes l 65-year old Eddie Pugh has just completed his fourth marathon in as many months.

The Chorley Harrier finished the undulating Cornish Marathon in just under five hours only a few weeks after success at the even tougher Snowdonia Marathon.

In the considerably shorter Salford Women's Five Mile Road Race, Rossendale Harrier Christine Navan was the winning over 60.

The event at Swinton attracted 186 runners with Laura Middleton of Burnley our first local in 11th.

l Clayton's Kitty Garnett was the winning over 65 woman at the recent Preston 10 Mile Road Race.

Kitty clocked 1:35:57 over the two lap course at Hutton.

The leading woman was Susan Samme of Lytham with 1:00:47, while for the men, Rick Hayman from Sale Harriers was first in 52:04 but was nearly two minutes adrift of the record which would have brought a £125 bonus.

Scott Monk of Blackburn Harriers took eighth in 55:58 with Chorley Harrier Alan Alty 12th and second over 45 in 57:09.
