MIKE Ferguson fears Venky’s have almost reached the point of no return at Blackburn Rovers after labelling their 22-month Ewood regime as “disgraceful”. The former Rovers midfielder believes the owners have let down the supporters, past employees, players and even manager Steve Kean and believes the damage inflicted is fast becoming irretrievable. Ferguson insists running a football club is about more than just picking up results and believes the chaos of the past few days sums up Venky’s reign to date. Kean’s future remains in the balance as the owners continue to dally over the decision to sack him, but Ferguson insists there is only one move that would make sense. Global advisor Shebby Singh added to the confusion yesterday after confirming Kean was still manager but refusing to comment on whether he would stay as boss in the long term and declined to comment when approached by the Lancashire Telegraph. The Lancashire Telegraph understands Kean’s position remains under severe threat with Venky’s believed to have made up their minds that he has no long-term managerial future at Ewood Park. Tim Sherwood and Jurgen Klinsmann are understood to be on their shortlist of potential replacements as Kean continues to cling on and is set to remain in the hotseat for Saturday’s trip to Charlton. The reason for putting a decision on hold remains unknown. Ferguson insists only the removal of Kean as manager can give the owners any ray of hope of winning public perception round but admits the longer “the farce” goes on, the less chance they have. Ferguson said: “I have never known anyone run a football club like this. It is a disgrace, there is no other word for it. The club has been dismantled in the last couple of years. “We may be near the top of the table but it seems as though the traditions of the club have gone at the moment. “They can’t run the club from India and they have shown that time and time again. The fans want and the club need decisive leadership but we have never had that. “I’m not even sure if getting rid of Steve Kean would be enough now, but it is the only chance they have. His managerial ability doesn’t really matter now, it is the fact that he has an impossible job of being accepted. “Venky’s have never backed him. I know they have kept him in a job but they have never said ‘this is our man’. I’m amazed he is prepared to take that.” Ferguson made 249 appearances for Rovers between 1962 to 1968 and he believes only a change in attitude and approach will win the Ewood faithful round. “The supporters have got a lot of criticism for their behaviour but I understand why they are doing it,” he said. “How can they support what is happening at the club? “It is obvious the players have no confidence at the moment because of the situation. “I worry that there is no way back for Venky’s. They are at fault for everything that has happened. The problem is the only chance they have is to change the manager. “Surely the manager should walk away for his own pride. He said he wants the best for the club and the best for the club is to change the manager. “This is not personal against Steve Kean but the fans have spoken. They are staying away in their thousands and they might never come back. How is that sustainable? “If I was Steve I would have walked. This is no way for a club or for a manager to continue.”
