OLYMPIC gold medal winner Steven Burke has helped give his home town of Colne the midas touch – with Royal Mail painting a post box gold in his honour.
The company has vowed to paint one of its famous red post boxes gold for each Olympic gold champion in their home town.
On Saturday morning, just hours after the 24-year-old cyclist was crowned winner of the Men’s Cycling Team Pursuit event with his fellow team mates, a post box on the corner of Crabtree Street and Albert Road was painted to mark the achievement.
Joe Cooney, leader of Pendle Borough Council, said: “I’m delighted Royal Mail have done a gold post box, and the one they’ve chosen is in a very prominent position.
“I think a lot of people will be having their photos taken next to it over the coming weeks.”
Steven and his team also feature in a new stamp.
Plans for Steven’s homecoming are due to be discussed today.
