RACHEL Brown has admitted she is ‘stunned’ after she was yesterday named in the Great Britain women’s football squad for the Olympics.

The goalkeeper from Burnley has been confirmed as one of 16 English players in the 18-strong squad for London 2012.

Great Britain - sending a women’s team to the Olympics for the first time - will play New Zealand, Cameroon and Brazil in a bid to progress to the quarter finals.

Brown, who plays for Everton at club level, has made 78 appearances for England – gaining selection for two World Cups and three European Championships tournaments.

But the 31-year-old says she had never felt as nervous about a call-up.

“It was horrendous, I was pacing up and down waiting for the call,” she said.

“Normally with England you’re part of the squad in the build-up so you have a good idea what the squad is going to be.

“But with this I was more doubtful than I’d ever been about whether I was going to be selected.

“There are only two keepers in the squad and you had the goalkeepers from Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland as well.

“I’m a bit stunned at the moment and I think it’s only in the next couple of weeks that it will start to sink in just what I’m going to be a part of.

“But I’m thrilled. My vocabulary isn’t big enough to say how excited I am.

“I am coming towards the end of my career and it is a massive honour because this will be the biggest tournament I’ve been involved in.”
