EAST Lancashire swimming duo Ryan Bennett and Josh Walsh will not compete in London 2012 after failing to qualify from the national championships in Sheffield.
Bennett, of Brinscall, and Blackburn’s Walsh had one final chance to qualify in the men’s 100m freestyle on Saturday.
It looked good for Bennett after finishing third in his morning heat in a time of 50.03 seconds.
But he could only finish fourth in the evening final, although his time marginally improved to 50.02s.
Hatfield’s Adam Brown took the final gold with 49.16s.
Walsh, however, failed to reach the final after finishing 14th in his heats in 51.83s.
Earlier at the championships, Bennett won the silver medal at the national championships in Sheffield in the 100m backstroke, but his personal best time was not enough for qualification with just one spot up for grabs.
