CLITHEROE’S Jon Schofield claimed gold at the Canoe Sprint World Cup in Duisburg after a superb display in the team relay.
Schofield had earlier picked up a silver medal, along with Liam Heath, in the K2 200m final, after also clocking the second fastest time ever in the semi-finals.
And the duo completed a successful two days with victory in the men’s K1 200m relay final in Germany, with Ed Cox and Ed McKeever also part of the winning team.
Confident in their ability as a foursome, having won medals at previous races, a podium finish seemed almost certain. A great start from McKeever saw the Brits in the lead, which was held by Heath and Schofield in the middle.
In the lead with the final leg to go Cox took over to bring the Brits in the gold.
Cox said: “We are really pleased, it was a great race on bumpy water.
“I dug deep and focused on the finish line, which we got to first.”
